About Turkish rugs

The Turks are Sunnites. The Persians are Shiites. You will never find even a small bird in a Turkish rug. Reds predominate in them. Colors are strong, without the subtle off-shades of the Persians.

In the early 1900's, the days of the Turkish Cozy Corner, there was a great vogue for collecting prayer rugs.

Many pros­perous businessmen paid vast sums for rugs which they were made to believe were at least a hundred years older than their true age, and hung them proudly in their "dens." I wonder where they all are today.
